The Flower Beetle Natural History

Size

The Flower Beetle grows up to 35mm.

Habitat and Distribution

They inhabit forested areas.

Diet

As grubs they eat decaying wood and leaves but as adults they prefer fruit.

Groups and Breeding

After mating, the female will lay her eggs in the ground. Once they hatch the larvae will spend the next 5 months feeding on leaves and rotten wood.

Threats

Even though they are sought after as dried specimens, these are usually captive bred, so they have a relatively healthy wild population.

Interesting Facts

Along with jumnos roylei, they were the first species to be found in their genus in 1839.

The Flower Beetle During Your Day Out in Kent

The Flower Beetles at Wingham Wildlife Park can be seen in the Bug Garden area of our park. This area is home to a wide variety of invertebrates including Sunny Stick Insects, Giant African Land Snails and Gooty Ornamental Tarantula.
