Size

The average size of a tailless whip scorpion ranges between 5 to 65cm.

Habitat and Distribution

They have a large range spanning hot parts of North and South America as well as Asia and Africa. They often hide under bark or stones.

Age

They can live between 5-10 years old.

Diet

This species has a varied diet including amphibians, insects, crustaceans, and small vertebrates.

Groups and Breeding

The female will carry her eggs under her belly until they are ready to hatch. The babies will then climb onto her back and stay there for a week until they can fend for themselves.

Interesting Facts

The tailless whip scorpion is neither a scorpion or a spider, it is a combination of the two. It does not have a venomous bite or stinger. The enlarged second pair of appendages are called pedipalps and they are used to seize its prey whilst the third appendages are long whip-like feelers.
