Emperor Scorpion Natural History
Size
They are a large scorpion species which grows up to 20 cm.
Habitat and Distribution
Emperor scorpions like to burrow underground and beneath rocks in the savannahs and tropical forests of west Africa.
Age
These scorpions have a lifespan of 5-8 years.
Diet
They are carnivores which feed on termites and small vertebrates.
Groups and Breeding
the gestation period of these scorpions is between 8-9 months and they usually give birth to 10-12 live young. The Mother carries her young on her back and protects them until they can defend themselves.
Threats
This species is not listed on the IUCN RED list. However their main threat comes from the pet trade as well as being used in scientific research for their venom.
