Size

They can reach lengths of 12cm (4.7 in).

Habitat and Distribution

As their name suggests they are found across Asia. They inhabit countries in the South East such as Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and India. They prefer moist forests and the dark undergrowth they offer.

Diet

They are carnivores feeding largely on invertebrates but also also small reptiles and mammals where possible.

Threats

This species has not been assessed by the IUCN.

Interesting Facts

They are also called the Giant Blue Scorpion or Giant Forest Scorpion.

While their venom is not typically lethal to humans it can still cause severe pain and numbness. However they usually attack using their pincers rather than their tail.
