These small snails only grow up to 12mm.

Habitat and Distribution

They can be found in most fresh water sources. However, they are most common in damns, irrigation channels and streams in or near towns. They can be found in many countries around the world. However they are only native to the USA and Canada, all other countries are introductions.

Diet

The Tadpole Bladder Snail is a herbivore which feeds on most plant matter.

Groups and Breeding

This is a hermaphroditic species with both male and female genitals, so one snail can reproduce on its own. They are very prolific.

Threats

Their range is rapidly expanding and populations in their native range is also increasing following a historical drop.

Interesting facts

They can also be known as the acute pond snail.
